Custom wavefront LASIK is now a FDA-approved procedure. In Los Angeles, Custom LASIK is performed by Dr Brian Boxer Wachler, one of the world's leading vision correction eye surgeons.

Custom LASIK maps the "fingerprint" of each person's vision imperfections, then helps to smooth out the fingerprint using wavefront technology with the laser. Dr. Brian uses wavefront LASIK to help correct vision problems, including halos, from LASIK done with earlier laser technology. He published LASIK studies with wider diameter laser optical zones which are used for advanced LASIK.  He also published his results of using wavefront LASIK to improve glare and halos from earlier generation LASIK laser procedures.

LASIK involves creating a thin flap in the outer layer of the cornea. The flap is carefully moved aside and the laser is used to reshape the cornea. The flap is replaced and bonds without stitches. It is typically a comfortable 5 minute procedure that requires no needles or shots, only numbing drops. LASIK can treat nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism.

The potential benefit of LASIK is improved vision.  The potential risks of LASIK are dry eyes, halos/glare, reduced vision, infection, need to still wear corrective lenses, inflammation, among others.
