| The scleral spacing procedure (SSP) has now
begun phase II of FDA clinical trials. Phase I began over four years ago
and showed good results and a high margin of safety. The results were published
in the peer-reviewed literature. Phase II of the FDA clinical trial has
recently begun. The procedure works by slightly expanding the sclera (white part) of the eye which allows the tiny muscles underneath to work again. The theory is that this allows the lens of the eye to focus again for near vision. International results have shown this procedure can also be performed after patients have had LASIK to improve their near vision even more so. An original investigator for Phase I, Dr. Boxer Wachler is also an investigator for the current phase II of this FDA clinical trial. If you are interested in learning more, please contact us. |
