Cornealius’s Corner

Who is Cornealius?

About now you are probably wondering: “Who is Cornealius?”

That’s me – chillin’

I am Cornealius! I’m a valuable and special member of the Boxer Wachler Vision Institute (BWVI) team.

There is ONLY one of me. I’m always in a great mood, lower maintenance than a pet rock, and truly unique – I like to think they broke the mold when I was born. Plus, I love what I do here!

I provide the extra-special comfort to patients having eye procedures. I think it is safe to say that most people get some degree of “heebie-jeebies” when it comes to their eyes. That’s why Dr. Brian recruited me to come on board at BWVI over 13 years ago. He knew exactly how I could relax patients during their procedures.

How do I comfort patients like a soft warm blanket cradles the supple skin of a newborn baby? I’ll walk you through the process of having a procedure with us. You will smile when you spot me as you step into our COZY procedure room. Dr. Brian will cordially introduce us to each other. I will be with you every step of the way; please feel free to squeeze me from time to time if it will make you feel better – lots of people have!

Dr. Brian and the staff are committed to making you as comfortable as enjoying a spa treatment. Dr. Brian will speak with you during the entire procedure. Some people say his voice is so soothing that he should narrate children’s books!

After your procedure, we can take a picture together and I will be sure to mail it to you! After all, fixing your eye problem is a BIG DEAL! So many patients like to commemorate this life-changing day!

So now you know about me. I am so excited to comfort you someday soon!!

Warmest regards,

Cornealius

A BRIEF NOTE ABOUT DR. BRIAN

Throughout his highly respected career, cornea specialist Dr. Brian has never wavered with his integrity and dedication to always do the best for each and every patient - even in the face of adversity and peer pressure. Case in point: when he developed a procedure to treat a cornea condition known as Keratoconus. While other eye surgeons were entrenched in performing invasive and painful cornea transplants, Dr. Brian invented a new non-invasive procedure that prevented needing cornea transplants. He was shocked by the medical establishment being unwelcoming to his innovation because, as he later found out, his new procedure was preventing other eye surgeons from performing their lucrative cornea transplants. Dr. Brian persisted, went against the grain and didn’t give up because he believed in himself and in his procedure as it was in the best interest of patients. Eventually, he crossed paths with U.S. Olympic bobsled driver Steven Holcomb who had Keratoconus and became so depressed over it that he tried to commit suicide. Luckily, he survived. The United States Olympic team and his coaches found Dr. Brian and sent Steven to see him. Dr. Brian restored his vision to 20/20 which enabled Steven later win a historic Olympic gold medal for United States in bobsled - the first in 62 years! As a result, Dr. Brian was later invited to give a prestigious TEDx talk about his integrity and dedication to patients. You can watch his moving and inspiring TEDx talk here.
