Choosing an implantable lens procedure is a life-changing decision that can significantly improve your vision and quality of life. At Dr. Brian’s practice in Los Angeles, CA, you receive care that’s not only expert but also fully tailored to your personal needs. With a reputation for excellence and advanced techniques, Dr. Brian is a trusted provider for those seeking long-term vision correction without the daily hassle of glasses or contact lenses.

Understanding the Implantable Lens

The implantable lens—also known as the Visian ICL—is a flexible, biocompatible lens placed behind your iris and in front of your natural lens. Unlike LASIK or PRK, no corneal tissue is removed. The lens is designed to correct nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism, and can be a great option if you’ve been told you’re not a candidate for laser surgery.

Pre-Procedure Preparation

Before your procedure, you’ll undergo a comprehensive eye exam to measure your eye’s anatomy and confirm you’re a good candidate. You’ll also receive instructions about how to prepare—this may include avoiding makeup, arranging transportation, and following medication guidelines. Dr. Brian will walk you through every step so you feel confident and informed.

During the Procedure

Your implantable lens procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you’ll return home the same day. Each eye usually takes about 10 minutes to complete, and most patients begin noticing clearer vision as soon as the following day. Dr. Brian uses advanced 1-Step Ultrasound-Guided EVO Visian ICL™ technology, which offers the benefit of enhanced precision and the ability to update the lens in the future if your prescription changes. While the goal is improved vision, as with any medical procedure, there are potential risks such as infection, inflammation, underwhelming visual results, or in rare cases, vision loss. That’s why Dr. Brian and every member of his team pay meticulous attention to every detail of your care.

His commitment to safety and outcomes is backed by published research and presentations at leading medical conferences, reflecting their deep expertise in this advanced lens procedure.

Recovery and Aftercare

You’ll rest briefly after the procedure, and your vision may be blurry for a few days. Eye drops will help with healing and inflammation. You’ll have follow-up visits to monitor your recovery and ensure the lens is stable. Many patients see noticeable improvement within 24 hours, and vision continues to sharpen over the following days.

A BRIEF NOTE ABOUT DR. BRIAN

Throughout his highly respected career, cornea specialist Dr. Brian has never wavered with his integrity and dedication to always do the best for each and every patient - even in the face of adversity and peer pressure. Case in point: when he developed a procedure to treat a cornea condition known as Keratoconus. While other eye surgeons were entrenched in performing invasive and painful cornea transplants, Dr. Brian invented a new non-invasive procedure that prevented needing cornea transplants. He was shocked by the medical establishment being unwelcoming to his innovation because, as he later found out, his new procedure was preventing other eye surgeons from performing their lucrative cornea transplants. Dr. Brian persisted, went against the grain and didn’t give up because he believed in himself and in his procedure as it was in the best interest of patients. Eventually, he crossed paths with U.S. Olympic bobsled driver Steven Holcomb who had Keratoconus and became so depressed over it that he tried to commit suicide. Luckily, he survived. The United States Olympic team and his coaches found Dr. Brian and sent Steven to see him. Dr. Brian restored his vision to 20/20 which enabled Steven later win a historic Olympic gold medal for United States in bobsled - the first in 62 years! As a result, Dr. Brian was later invited to give a prestigious TEDx talk about his integrity and dedication to patients. You can watch his moving and inspiring TEDx talk here.
