Stronger Corneas, Sharper Vision: Why Athletes Should Consider Fortified LASIK

LASIK Los Angeles

If you’re an athlete, you know how much your vision can impact your performance. From tracking fast-moving objects to reacting quickly on the field, court, or track, clear and reliable sight gives you a crucial edge. But if you’re nearsighted, farsighted, or struggle with astigmatism, glasses and contacts might be holding you back. Fortified LASIK could be a solution worth considering to help you feel more confident in your vision—without the daily hassle of lenses.

What Makes Fortified LASIK Different?

Traditional LASIK may help improve vision by reshaping your cornea using a laser. But for athletes, corneal strength matters just as much as clarity. Fortified LASIK enhances the standard LASIK procedure with an additional corneal strengthening step. This method involves a customized treatment that includes corneal cross-linking, which may help reinforce the structure of your cornea.

By potentially increasing the biomechanical strength of your eyes, Fortified LASIK is designed to support an active lifestyle—especially one that involves physical contact or high-impact motion. This could be beneficial if you’re involved in sports like basketball, soccer, martial arts, or even endurance training where stability and visual performance are crucial.

Benefits That May Support Your Athletic Goals

Wearing glasses or contact lenses during sports often creates distractions. They can slip, fog up, or dry out—interfering with your concentration when you need it most. Fortified LASIK may give you the opportunity to enjoy reduced dependence on corrective lenses. This can allow you to move with more freedom, reduce your risk of injury from broken glasses or lost contacts, and help you stay focused during high-intensity activity.

Additionally, the corneal strengthening aspect of Fortified LASIK may offer added reassurance when it comes to eye safety. For athletes who are concerned about long-term eye health or the potential risk of corneal thinning over time, this strengthened approach may provide peace of mind.

Is Fortified LASIK Right for You?

Every athlete’s eyes are unique, and not everyone may be a candidate for Fortified LASIK. That’s why it’s important to have a personalized consultation with an experienced expert like Dr. Brian in Los Angeles. You’ll undergo a detailed evaluation to determine whether your eye health, corneal thickness, and lifestyle align with this advanced procedure.

During your visit, you can also discuss any questions or concerns you may have about recovery, results, and how soon you might return to training. While most people experience a relatively quick healing process, your plan will be tailored to your specific needs and sport.

Ready to Explore Your Visual Potential?

Your vision is one of your most powerful tools as an athlete. Whether you’re competing professionally or playing for the love of the game, you deserve the chance to see clearly and play confidently. Fortified LASIK could help you achieve visual freedom and stronger corneas, so you can stay focused on your goals—not your glasses.

A BRIEF NOTE ABOUT DR. BRIAN

Throughout his highly respected career, cornea specialist Dr. Brian has never wavered with his integrity and dedication to always do the best for each and every patient - even in the face of adversity and peer pressure. Case in point: when he developed a procedure to treat a cornea condition known as Keratoconus. While other eye surgeons were entrenched in performing invasive and painful cornea transplants, Dr. Brian invented a new non-invasive procedure that prevented needing cornea transplants. He was shocked by the medical establishment being unwelcoming to his innovation because, as he later found out, his new procedure was preventing other eye surgeons from performing their lucrative cornea transplants. Dr. Brian persisted, went against the grain and didn’t give up because he believed in himself and in his procedure as it was in the best interest of patients. Eventually, he crossed paths with U.S. Olympic bobsled driver Steven Holcomb who had Keratoconus and became so depressed over it that he tried to commit suicide. Luckily, he survived. The United States Olympic team and his coaches found Dr. Brian and sent Steven to see him. Dr. Brian restored his vision to 20/20 which enabled Steven later win a historic Olympic gold medal for United States in bobsled - the first in 62 years! As a result, Dr. Brian was later invited to give a prestigious TEDx talk about his integrity and dedication to patients. You can watch his moving and inspiring TEDx talk here.
